Marking moments

A moment is the sentence where something changes between your characters. Mark it once, and Kronicler remembers it as of that chapter.

Mark a moment

  1. Select the sentence.

In a chapter, select the sentence where it happens. A toolbar appears above it: choose Mark a moment, or press ⇧⌘. (Ctrl+Shift+. on Windows).

  2. Say what changed.

Between two: something between a character and someone, or something (a place, an object). Pick who, what they feel or do, and toward or with whom. Not in the list? Type it and add it as a new kind. Inside one: a change within one character. Pick who, and how they feel right here.

  3. Select who knows (optional).

Open Who knows this? By default, everyone knows, and the reader too. Change it when the moment is a secret or a belief.

  4. Record it.

Choose Record moment, or press Enter. It’s filed under the chapter you’re in.

Kronicler also puts a in the margin where two of your people meet. Click it to record what changes there. Nothing is overwritten, so one sentence can hold several moments: the dialog counts them as you go.

Who knows: the four options

OptionWhat it means
EveryoneThe default. Every character knows, and so does the reader.
All but…Hidden from the few you name. Everyone else, and the reader, knows.
Only…Only the few you name know it. It’s hidden from the rest.
A beliefWhat these characters believe, whether or not it’s true.

Deleting is for good. Moments don’t go to the Trash, so deleting one can’t be undone.
